| RESEARCH AND FEASIBILITY STUDIES ON THE FILM AND AUDIOVISUAL SECTOR IN THE EU | |
New Study for the Lithuanian Audiovisual Sector
SUMMARY KEA has recently completed a new study for the Lithuanian Cultural Programme Centre and the MEDIA Desk Lithuania to increase Lithuanian audiovisual companies' performance in the European audiovisual sector and in related EU support programmes. The study includes the first ever market analysis of the Lithuanian film sector and examines the impact that European audiovisual support programmes such as MEDIA and Eurimages have on the sector. It makes recommendations in relation to how the competitiveness of Lithuanian companies' participation in such programmes could be increased and links this analysis to the overall circumstances of audiovisual companies in Lithuania. The assignment reconfirms KEA's understanding of the issues that countries and regions which are characterised by specific cultural and linguistic circumstances (such as a limited language market for cultural products, etc.) are facing in the context of an increasingly global and competitive creative economy. It shows that the audiovisual sector is a key promoter of cultural identity and local language - especially in smaller European countries and regions - and that it contributes to their general innovation capacity and to economic development. .
